You know why social media does not work for you? Because you don’t work for it, plain and simple. Social media is not the problem, your lack of commitment to building online relationships and your community is what’s holding you back from online success.
YOU: I need help with social media.
ME: I’ll be glad to take a look.YOU: I tried social media but it’s just not working out for me.
ME: I’ll see what I can do.YOU: No one comments on my social media posts.
ME: Uh, the last time you posted was in mid-January; you do realize it’s almost May?
An abandoned social media platform will do one or more things to your business:
- cause a potential or existing client to lose interest.
- if they do post or comment to see “if anyone is home” and get no answer, they will leave.
- they form an opinion of you and your business based on the absence.

OUCH! These are tough things to regroup and recover from. When you hang out your shingle online you have to show up and I don’t mean for sporadic, random visits. This social media thing is business too!
An engaged social media platform is clear indication of the following:
- you care for your customers.
- great service.
- the quality of your products and services.
Once upon a time businesses had to be listed in the Yellow Pages to considered ‘in business,’ but that was some time ago and now, if you are not online–you’re not really in business.
The internet is here to stay with it’s ties to the world wide web and social media is not a passing fad. So please don’t tell me why social media does not work for you if you are not willing to do the work–oh, unless you don’t have time and then I recommend you hire a social media manager or a really good virtual assistant.
I’d really like to hear what about social media has worked or not worked for you.
Are you in need of a social media plan? Please leave a comment and let me know.
