Being Small

Four things on earth are small, yet they are extremely wise:  ants are creatures of little strength, yet they store up their food in the summer; hyraxes are creatures of little power, yet they make their home in the crags; locusts have no king, yet they advance together in ranks; a lizard can be caught with the hand, yet it is found in kings’ palaces. Proverbs 30:24-28

Proverbs 30:24

Being small, the ant, the hyrax, the locust and the lizard all conduct themselves in extremely wise ways and I’m going to share with you how their conduct can be paralleled to your small business.

Ant:  The ant is not to be judged by his size. It’s extremely industrious and displays a tremendous amount of strength. What the ant lacks in size  is made up for in wisdom in planning for the future. Small business is the new big business–get your due respect by making wise choices for the future of your business. You’ll make a big name for your small business in doing so. [CLICK TO TWEET!]

Hyrax:  Although small in stature, the hyrax is wise in taking refuge in the rocks and crags for protection as it is a small defenseless creature. The enemy takes on many disguises and being a Christian in small business doesn’t make you exempt from the trials and temptations of the world. Follow the lead of the hyrax and take refuge in the Rock, our God. David expressed it so well, “The LORD is my rock, my fortress and my deliverer.” (2 Samuel 22:2). The apostle Paul reminds us, “Finally, be strong in the Lord and in his mighty power.” (Ephesians 6:10)

Locust:  God referred to the locusts as His great army. The size of these creatures did not prevent them from doing tremendous damage when called upon. But notice, they stick together and answer when God calls them. They have no king or leader, they simply answer to God. Small business needs to come together with other small business and engage together to see the strength that God will provide in joined efforts.

Lizard:  Small creatures with sticky feet, that’s the lizard I know. It doesn’t let any obstacle get in its way and has even been known to waltz across the ceiling doing things and showing up places that you and I have never even dreamed of. Take the attitude of the lizard with your small business and go where others fear to tread and don’t let anyone tell you that you don’t belong.
