The quest to find purpose is ongoing and everchanging. Are you serious about finding your purpose? Here’s a little secret that’s not so secret: It is a constant quest. We’re human, we’re made that way–seeking, hunting, looking; it is the nature of the beast. Don’t be discouraged, there are ways to satisfy your yearning for purpose.
Kick the “what’s in it for me” mentality to the curb, roll up your sleeves and get busy! Begin your day with this question, “How may I serve you?” The answer to this question is the key to finding purpose all day long.
“We live in a culture that overvalues fifteen minutes of fame and undervalues lifelong faithfulness.” Mark Batterson, author of the New York Times best seller The Circle Maker
The keys I have found to be most useful in finding purpose are:
- Love the Lord our God completely.
- Go to Him in prayer first, not as a last resort.
- Give up working and begin serving.
- Ask for what you need with a believing heart.
- Don’t place man’s limitations on God’s abilities.
- Tell others what God has done for you.
Resist the urge to look for glory in doing because while it may be physically or mentally fulfilling, it will leave you spiritually empty. Strive to be more eternally-minded rather than seeking a mere 15-minutes of fame.
In order to serve others well and live into your purpose drop the loosely used expressions such as “it’s all about me” “it’s complicated” “I’m just sayin'” because those are all self-serving.
