Social media lessons from The Big Bang Theory with a bit of levity for helping you to manage your expectations while building your brand for your business.

Can you apply social media lessons from The Big Bang Theory? While this top rated situation comedy is quite silly at times, there are some things you can relate to while building your brand and online presence through the use of social media. This post includes a little bit of levity for helping you to manage your expectations of using social media for your business.

Bernadette: Why are you being a baby?
Howard: I’m not a baby! I’m a grown man, and I made the bed. Now where’s my star?

Results in social media use are not instant; you aren’t making instant pudding.  You are building your business presence and a community; this takes time. If you need a star to chart your progress, create a list of milestones and celebrate when you reach them.

Sheldon: Did you enjoy my lecture?
Amy: No, and neither did our waiter.

There’s a time and place for everything under the sun. Your social media platform is not a place to chastise, ramble on and on or stir up strife. It’s called social media for a reason–think community, get-together, party!

Sheldon:  I do not accept this. Everything is changing and I hate it. It stops now.

Facebook made a change. Pinterest changed their layout. Twitter updated … stop it! Things change and you have to roll with the changes or you and your online business presence will be left behind.

Howard:  You’re being so quiet. Are you upset or are you just rebooting?

Engage. Engage. Engage. When someone comments on one of your social media platforms that is your cue to reply. It’s hard to have a conversation when the lulls in between span days or weeks, worse yet–no reply at all.

Sheldon:  But to be fair, when you talk, most of what you say sounds like, “Wah, wah, wah, clothes”.

Get to know the fans and followers on your social media platforms. Don’t make them muddle through looking for a point of interest relevant to them because they won’t continue to do so for too long. What once was interesting can quickly become yesterday’s news and that is quickly tossed in the recycling bin. Keep your content fresh, current and relevant.

The new season launches next week; what social media lessons from The Big Bang Theory can you apply to your social media strategy for your online business presence? Are you a fan or follower of this show? If so, who’s your favorite character?
